Convert directly to QuickBooks desktop

If you are switching from a Quicken version that is not similar to the QuickBooks desktop, then only you can go for Quicken converter. For instance, Quicken 2018 to QuickBooks Premier, Pro, or Enterprise 2020. But you cannot convert Quicken into QuickBooks using Quicken converter if you are using an equivalent version of your QuickBooks desktop. It can also be converted directly to QuickBooks desktop using conversion Utility. For instance, Quicken 2019 to QuickBooks Premier, Pro, or Enterprise 2019.

Besides this, you cannot use Quicken Converter or Conversion Utility in QuickBooks if you are trying to convert Quicken to a Mac data file. It demands you to convert your Mac data file first to Quicken for Windows. Also, you can create a new QuickBooks company file as a substitute.

Use the Quicken Converter

Once you try using Quicken converter, do check the installed version of it. Make sure to go for Quicken converter only if you have the right version installed from your computer. If you find another version installed, just uninstall it, and download the version of the converter tool that matches with the QuickBooks desktop. 

To launch and convert Quicken into QuickBooks, you need to follow the below-given steps:

Launch the downloaded version of the Quicken converter

  1. Click on the next tab
  2. Click on the check box mentioning “I accept the terms in the license agreement.”
  3. Click on the next tab. 
  4. Again, click on the next tab and then on the install tab.
  5. Click on launch Converter & then on the finish tab.
  6. Select ” transferring of data from Quicken for Windows.” 
  7. Click on Get started
  8. Select “Open a data file located on this computer.”
  9. Select the file (.QDF) you want to open by browsing it into your PC
  10. Click on the “convert it” tab and then click on the OK tab
  11. Click on the Save tab to save your new data file of Quicken. 

Use the Conversion Utility

Once you are done with installing the right version of your Quicken, you can convert it with the help of Conversion Utility as well. Here are the steps that you can follow to convert your Quicken into QuickBooks using Conversion Utility:

  1.  Go to files, then utilities, then Convert
  2.  Select “From Quicken”
  3. Select the file of Quicken (.QDF) that you want to convert.

The conversion Utility will instruct you through the complete process automatically. If you want to access the help window in your QuickBooks Desktop, you can press F1. It will open a search tab where you can type “Convert from Quicken.” It will give you more details about the conversion Utility.

Though converting Quicken data into QuickBooks is not a complex process, yet it demands some assistance when you try it for the first time. Just remember the fact that converting Quicken to QuickBooks is a one-way conversion. Once you perform the conversion, you will not be able to open the data in Quicken. Therefore, it is suggested to keep a backup of your Quicken data before you go for QuickBooks. 

Also, make sure to check the version installed in your system as QuickBooks can only convert Quicken for Windows files. Moreover, you can face some challenges while converting Quicken to Quickbooks. Therefore, it is better to start from a new file when you decide to switch to QuickBooks over Quicken. It saves lots of time, effort, and of course risk of losing data.
